How to Make a Life-size Giant Squid

I found this great project over at Zoom Times to show just how big giant squids really are and to show all their cool body parts.  The paper is the body and the streamers and Christmas lights are the tentacles and arms.  Click here to read more and to see more pictures.

We decided to make a colossal squid, which stretched almost the entire length of the basement.  Cool! Below is our squid.  We researched and made his mantle be 3 meters, his head and arms to be 2.5 meters and his tentacles to be 7 meters.

We learned that colossal squids have hooks on the of their tentacles, whereas, giant squid have saw-like suckers.  They're hooks look very scary!

Don't these hooks look mean?

Squid: The  Inside Story

This obviously is a fake squid but it does show just how big one can be.

See the octosquid that was recently discovered.

Here's a link to our octopus page and our cuttlefish page.

We've also always wanted to do a similar project to demonstrate the "hugeness" of a whale.  You can even go inside the whale!  We may try that one out soon as well but it will take a lot of work.
