Hatching Chick Eggs

We attempted to incubate some leghorn chicken eggs but for some reason only one egg has hatched so far.  I'm not giving up hope yet for the others.  This one hatched 6 days late.

cute little fuzzy chick - see his egg tooth on his beak

The kids named him "Pop Tart".

Here he is at 2 days old.

We cracked open the rest of the dead eggs and found 11 fully formed chicks that didn't hatch for some reason and 3 that died around day 11 of incubation.

Update:  Sadly, Pop Tart died today.  We don't know why.  His stomach felt hard though so I think something was wrong internally.  The kids buried him along with his unhatched brothers and sisters in the forest area behind our house today.  Poor Pop Tart.  So glad, we were able to enjoy his short little life for a while.

Chicken Hatching Attempt #2

try, try again...

Introducing...Cheeto!

I couldn't get him to cooperate for his first picture.

Sure hope the other eggs hatch!!!!

Update:  When we woke up this morning, Cheeto was dead.  Poor little guy!

Finally!  A Successful Hatch

On our 3rd attempt, we finally got some of the chicken eggs to hatch and to live.  Yippee!!!

Update:  Our chicks were adopted and live on a farm.  Here are two of them all grown up!  We're so proud!

Aren't they beautiful?!!!
